Journal The Cydonian's Journal: This is sooo not happening. 3

8:29PM here. About to leave for some much required sleep.

Just discovered that I accidentally deleted the main DataGrid object, (on which I worked for two whole days) and what's more, had actually pressed F5.

You heard about VS.net saving all the files in a project before it compiles? Yup, it's true.

(You'd also think that one way to avoid over-work would be to cut down on disasters like this.)

  • But don't most IDEs make a *backup* of files that you just saved? You could always hunt down the backup file.

Also, if you're like me, you store source code on a server that gets backed up nightly, so you could just retreive from the previous night's backup maybe.

And if you're not like me...well, I can always give you the number of a good psychiatrist. ;)
  • Unless you created the object from scratch within the past two days, you could just re-checkout ... guess that's not the case, though.

One would think a sane default setting would be to prompt the user - 'you have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to recompile'? One of those places where being extra cautious is actually useful.

The rule on staying alive as a program manager is to give 'em a number or give 'em a date, but never give 'em both at once.
