US To Require Vaccines For All Border Crossers In January 241

President Joe Biden will require essential, nonresident travelers crossing U.S. land borders, such as truck drivers, government and emergency response officials, to be fully vaccinated beginning on Jan. 22, the administration planned to announce Tuesday. The Associated Press reports: A senior administration official said the requirement, which the White House previewed in October, brings the rules for essential travelers in line with those that took effect earlier this month for leisure travelers, when the U.S. reopened its borders to fully vaccinated individuals. Essential travelers entering by ferry will also be required to be fully vaccinated by the same date, the official said. The rules pertain to non-U.S. nationals. American citizens and permanent residents may still enter the U.S. regardless of their vaccination status, but face additional testing hurdles because officials believe they more easily contract and spread COVID-19 and in order to encourage them to get a shot. [...] About 47 million adults in the U.S. remain unvaccinated, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Biden administration has not required people who cross the border illegally to either produce evidence of vaccination or get vaccinated. This new mandate also does not apply to US citizens or nationals, who can return to the country regardless of vaccination status. It "only" expands the vaccination mandate from foreign tourists to also cover "essential" foreign visitors. (Obviously, they can't be so essential if we will turn them away.)

Is there any evidence to suggest that any of those excluded groups are contributing significantly to infections in the US? What is the rate of unvaccinated arriving and what is the take up rate of vaccines when they do arrive?

Gotta follow the science here, if the risk is low enough then other factors become a priority.

      • It worked for NZ for a long while. The economic impact is unknown to me, but them refusing to let anyone in or out really kept the outbreak from happening.

If you cross the border illegally without seeking asylum you will be deported. Just like Obama before him Biden is on track for a large number of deportations, and it's only declining because the number of people trying to come to America is declining. People seeking asylum aren't required to be vaccinated because that would be ridiculous. If you're fleeing violence, which is what most asylum secrets are doing, the last thing on your mind is whether or not you got your se

Is Biden using the same Obama-vintage definition of "deportation" that, in contrast with historical practice, counts people who get caught and sent back at the border? Obama changed that counting so that out wouldn't be so obvious how much worse he was than even GWB.

The rule for admitting a refugee is not whether they are seeking asylum, but whether they are an actual refugee under international law. But left-wing radicals don't care about that, they just talk about "seeking asylum" and coach illegal immi

So what you're saying is it's the same standard that Trump used? So if it's higher under Biden than under Trump, it means he's more successful at securing the border?

The rule for admitting a refugee is not whether they are seeking asylum, but whether they are an actual refugee under international law.

We are actively turning back people who are under death threat back home, as in literal death threats.

        • Who are these left-wing radicals doing this coaching? I think you have disconnected from reality a bit. You don't need coaching to know that economic migrants are accepted in very few cases and political asylum seekers are generally welcome around the world. So uh yeah you claim to be an asylum seeker. Also water is wet. Who would need coaching for that?

You *STILL* must get tested, within 3 days of travel, to cross the US border.

The "new normal"? It's getting more and more strict. Either regard it like the flu, where old people will die sometimes, and stop with this spiral to the bottom, or legislate masks and body suits for everyone, always, as the "new normal". I'm amazed the public has allowed this theater to go on this long.

"getting more and more strict" because it should. The infection rate is rising again, mainly due to the large number of unvaccinated nitwits. Increased testing is definitely called for.
