Are You on Clonaid Board of Directors? 19

rollthelosindice writes "The Boston Globe is reporting that Clonaid has no address, no board of directors, and only two employees, according to sealed court documents obtained by the Globe. Yet the group is pushing forward with plans to charge dozens of prospective cloning patients up to $200,000 apiece for its services."

And the Raelian sect has seen its dues-paying membership swell by 10 percent because of all the publicity, according to its founder...

Scientists were openly skeptical, but the group nonetheless received enormous news media attention.

So, the news is that Clonaid isn't a legitimate company? It seems the press is still falling right into their hands...

the press is still clinging to this clonaid clan. they're not a company, they havent cloned anything, they refuse to let their claims be tested, and their claims have been dismissed entirely.

the press is just feeding into what they want: publicity for that whacked group the two employees belong to.
    • You know... when i first heard clonaid's claim on the godbox (aka TV) i thought to myself: "hey!-didn't they make totl.net's 'cult of the week' a while back?" The ensueing 'proof' of their cloning success did nothing but lament this initial reaction...

Sure enough [totl.net]. Now who the fuck is dumb enough to actually think that clonaid not being a "real"(tm) company is some kind of news?

      i rest my case...

Of course... No-one would want to be legally tied to a company like that for liability/criminal prosecution reasons... If they are serious, (obviously very unlikely) I would not expect to see anything other than this.

These guys are hilarious. My favorite thing is the "Embryonic cell fusion redefined: The new RMX2010" [clonaid.com]. It doesn't do anything special [nature.com], but costs nearly $10,000. My question is, though, if they don't have any employees, they certainly have been productive with this machine, the website, and press coverage, releases, etc.

    Heh, heh...

After reading the description page all I can say is: Great! I was wondering the most cost-effective means of setting up my very own Electric Needle hut ever since Bart and Homer ended up on Molokai.

Clonaid is the best profit maker since I started buying real estate with no money down. I work from home and set my own hours. Unlike most other MLMs, you won't have to find "suckers" to make your profits. Just clone new customers! This is the only pyramid scheme where you make your own bricks.

4 out of 5 of me recommend Clonaid for patients who need clones.

    1. They can't have it. (Not mine, anyway, picture Monty Python's Live Organ Donor program...)

    2. No matter how much they kick and scream, we won't be giving back the vote, either.

Debian has no address, no board of directors, and NO employees, and yet you want big companies to run their enterprise structure on it?

Just pointing out that lack of a management structure like that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The entire AmigaOS was written by one person, wasn't it?

  • "He contends that a meeting with aliens inspired him to start the Raelian movement, which believes that humans are clones of an alien race called the Elohim."

Okay so are we to believe that the aliens gave him the secrets to cloning humans? Now it all makes sense.

What I see here is a cult who has been preaching for years that aliens gave them the secret to cloning. All of sudden when real scientists discover how to actually do it, the cult leaders (in order to save face) claim they have been doing it for
