An anonymous reader writes Having completed his 31-day stretch underwater, Fabien Cousteau, grandson of famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, shows off his underwater laboratory to PBS in this video. When asked about his observations' Fabien said' "It's just amazing, we've seen so much new behavior that I've never seen before. Fish sleeping in sponges, a goliath grouper attacking a barracuda, never seen that before, I don't think anyone has ever caught it on film before. Christmas tree worms, spawning and giving off this milky smoke like stuff off. I mean it's just science fiction, it's really amazing down here. And that's why we're down here, my grandfather used to say, in order to film a fish you must become a fish. So we're trying to get as close as we can to becoming fish."

No.
The pressure inside of a water-tight trailer at sea-level is 1 bar. The Aquarius is at "environmental" pressure, meaning 2.8b when you're 18m below sea-level. This means they will experience the same effects of pressure as a scuba diver but on a much longer period.
So yes, this would be a family record for saturation diving (see older thread).

Thanks, but it doesn't fix the headline, and it doesn't prevent future copying content-free verbiage directly from terrible writers. I would not have thought of looking for "underwater habitat" myself.

Cousteau's deep divers DID have exhalation bubbles. rebreathers simply will not function beyond very shallow dives. Because you must balance your own internal pressure against that of the sea, and the human lung wasn't evolved for doing much more than 1 bar. You may be thinking of Conshelf Three which was an extended habitat some 328 feet below the surface. Seriously, without Jacques Yves Cousteau (and military divers), there probably wouldn't have been nearly the early development of scuba diving that brought in the talent and creativity required to make it safer than riding a bike on the street (something else I do with great regularity at night, thank you, Cree LED lights). Scuba diving today has a fatality estimate of about 5 per 100K divers.
