University Fails to Find Man Who Hasn't Seen Porn 32

Scientists at the University of Montreal would love to compare the views of men in their 20s who had never been exposed to pornography with regular porn watchers. The problem is, they can't find a man in that age category who has never seen it. “We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography,” said Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse. “We couldn't find any.”

  • Maybe they should head to Universities such as Brigham Young or more traditional christian schools. They might find some kids there who have never seen it before.
    • It'd have to be a university that doesn't have internet access... After all, "The Internet is for Porn!"
    • Or who say they have never seen it before...

Porn consumption is higher [hbs.edu] (PDF) in the more religious states.

      • But the paper appear to say that there is "not a significant difference" between those that are "religiously active" (or regularly attend religious services, or something like that) and those that don't.

Which, IMO, just means that most mainstream religious people are hypocrites...

    • No they wouldn't for the same reason that they can't find any in their school. Your schoolastic up brining has nothing to do with Weither or not you will eventually see porn. Your community on the other hand would. They need to focus on the home schooled kids with no television, internet or neighbors for miles around; maybe go as far as recruiting from Omish country.

BYU has, I believe consistently rated _really_ high (like, top five) in Playboy Magazine's polls of the Top Party Schools (in teh US) over many years. I can assure you they have porn there.

We refer to them as "blind from birth".

"Prof Lajeunesse interviewed 20 heterosexual male university students..." Really now, even if this was idle, I don't see how the results of an interview with 20 students could be called a study. I'm really kind of surprised anyone would even submit this.
  • The recipe of success, proceed the following filtering process and you will get a "pure" sample:
    1) Go to Opus Dei (Ultra orthodox catholics) universities such as: University of Navarra (Spain), Austral University (Argentina), IESE Business School (Spain), Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Italy), Panamerican University (Mexico), etc...
    2) Find all the numerary Opus Dei members (both Students and Professors, numerary members can't get married, oh yeah, and they are really serious about it.) 3) Selec

The only problem I can with this "pure sample" however, is that these students are also more than likely secluded in their living (i.e. limited to no exposure to the outside world). Which I guess makes for an interesting tangent question, can you live in the outside world and NEVER be exposed to porn?
      • You would be impressed. Actually Opus Dei members don't have a secluded living, they are neither monks nor hermits. You wouldn't be able to differentiate them from common laymen at a glance, especially if they are supernumerary members (those who don't live in Opus Dei centers and can get married) They are just common people out in the world, with the only difference that they are very spiritual and have a very disciplined life, and they are really committed to it.
    • Answer: from the vicinity of the campus area. And who answers those ads posted in and around the campus asking for test subjects? The majority are college students. This is why I take these results of university research with a grain of salt. The sample population is not a general enough sample (similarities in age, culture, religious preferences etc). The researchers operate not only with limited resources but also with constraints in time. Time for finding subjects, calling them back regarding

    What a shocker.

  • It's not like they looked very hard. According to TFA they only interviewed 20 heterosexual men from the university, then evidently gave up figuring that 20 people was a good representative sample of ...... the first 20 people who responded to their survey, I suppose.
    • I still find it difficult to believe that they could find someone on a college campus. 1/2 the posters in (male) dorm rooms are of some pornographic nature. While it may be unintentional, it is still exposure. I say goodluckwiththat.

You could be on to something here... people who voluntarily answer cock-a-mamie surveys are probably people who don't get out much.

    • Maybe they could only find 20 heterosexual men in Montreal.
  • Not the first place I'd start looking. Nuff said. (Heck... there's probably more porn producers in Montreal than porn virgins.)

    Disclaimer:

    • I went to high school there
    • Half of my family lives there
    • I'm there for dinner at least once a month

Keep up the good work! But please don't ask me to help.
