h.ross.perot writes: Like a page from Larry Niven's Known Space series, here is a real report of Criminals organs being harvested for "profit" From the article: China is trying to move away from the use of executed prisoners as the major source of organs for transplants. According to the China Daily newspaper, executed prisoners currently provide two-thirds of all transplant organs. The government is now launching a voluntary donation scheme, which it hopes will also curb the illegal trafficking in organs. But analysts say cultural bias against removing organs after death will make a voluntary scheme hard to implement.

SCI-FI? China admits death row organ use

  • Does anyone care to comment on reports that Falun Gong practitioners have been imprisoned and used as organ sources? A summary can be found here: [] Personally, I believe it is happening. And obviously should be stopped, somehow.
  • I thought that certain methods of execution made the organs not viable? Does this mean, that other more brutal methods are being used so that the organs remain in good condition to be used? Just wondering.

    • I'm sure, if it came down to choosing between delicious organs and human execution, they'd choose the organs every time.

That said, though, I suspect that practical considerations mean that that choice isn't really the one you actually face. With organs fresh is good. Which means, you want the prisoner to die quickly; but with minimal damage to the desired organs. Since the brain is never used for transplants, any method that involves swift, massive damage to the brain fits the bill. Bullet(s) to the head
