NASA Attempts to Break Record with Mach 10 Flight

starannihilator writes "Wired News is reporting that NASA is planning on using its new SCRAMJET to break the aircraft speed record (on Earth, anyway) at Mach 10 (7,000 mph or 10-times the speed of sound). Using the hypersonic X-43A, NASA hopes to break the record on Monday, November 15th."

Not as bad as their dupe google story they went as far as deleting (after it racked up about 25 comments, pretty much all flaming slashdot for posting a dupe within 3 hours of the original).

My post to it was still in my comment history for a few hours after, then I guess they realised they needed to trash all references to the SID or the next story would carry its posts.

Yeah, none of the messages I've sent to daddypants have ever been answered.

Dead links, articles with no links to the stories, dupes, articles with blatant typos (like Christopher Reeves), and so forth.

The reason there is a duplicate is they've already done the test, but in a freak accident they slingshotted around the Earth's gravity well, and have gone back in time.

Now with their special future knowledge, they're announcing they're about to try it again. :-P

Actually it was ST:V that beat.. or rather reached the warp 10 record, although if you read some accounts the older series used to talk about a different scale which went up to warp 13
