The big problem I keep seeing is the morons who wear a mask under their nose. It's difficult to get everybody to wear a mask, and everybody has to wear one for them to be effective. Their likely more effective at trapping viruses going out than coming in, so the people with the mask not covering their noses are likely causing issues even if everybody else is wearing one properly.
Agree - though it helps a little against sneezes. I do wish that a year and a half in, millions dead, and trillions of $ spent, we had better mask technology that didn't fog glasses and was easy to breath in in hot climates. Don't get me wrong, I wear a mask, but its pretty primitive for the job it does.
We do have good quality elastomeric masks. They are pretty easy to breathe through and (I assume) don't fog glasses. They do however make you look weird, are hard to talk through and need some modification to filter or remove the exhale valve. Until I was vaccinated, I wore an N100 Stealth Air woodworking mask to the gym. It's definitely nicer without the mask, but it was ok.
Those have some advantages.
I was sort of hoping for something more innovative. Say takign a few pictures of your face with your cell phone - then a company ships a 3d printed mask that seals well around your face and nose, with replacible filters.
(maybe that particular concept is garbage. but there are a dozen more like it that might work) .
Philosophy: A route of many roads leading from nowhere to nothing.
