Riding with Robots writes "The Kaguya probe, now in lunar orbit, has sent down the first footage of the moon's surface from its onboard high-definition TV camera. The Kaguya mission, which consists of a main orbiter and two smaller satellites in a 100-km-high, polar orbit, is slated to officialy begin its science phase in December."

  • I meant to add that the first part of the sequence shows the Ocean of Storms, and the second was taken near the moon's north pole.
    • That is some incredible footage, I hope it proves inspirational so that more people will be enthusiastic and optimistic about returning to the Moon with manned missions. There's never been a mission in my lifetime, and I hope the ones scheduled for 2018-2020 ish don't end up getting swept away after Bush leaves office.
