An anonymous reader writes "There are few women in most fields of science, and in engineering and mathematics. One reason for this might be that women are smarter than men, so they make better career choices. The actual reason is that scientists, whether male or female, are biased against women in science. Evidence for this is in a recently published paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in which university professors were asked to evaluate a student for a hypothetical laboratory manager position. The same resume was given to all professors, but half had a male name, and the other half had a female name. The male scored much higher in all categories and commanded a higher salary."
