aarondubrow writes "Quantum computing may represent the next major evolution in technology. In theory, it would allow for faster and more complex computations using a fraction of the energy. One of the most promising implementations involves a defect in diamond that leads to a missing carbon in the material's matrix, with a nitrogen atom located nearby. Since diamonds are expensive and difficult to work with, researchers are using simulations on the Ranger supercomputer to explore potential alternatives, including silicon carbide (SiC)."
